On April 18th, the UConn Charity Showcase is being held in the Betsy Patterson Square from 7-9 pm, in which numerous acts (dance groups, bands, a capella groups, speakers, etc.) will perform. Then from 9pm -7am, there will be an overnight cardboard sleep out to raise awareness about the conditions of poverty on the Student Union Mall. The event serves to collect donations for the No Freeze homeless shelter in Willimantic which caters to homeless men and women. This is a “wet shelter” which provides individuals with access to a bed regardless of external factors (i.e. drug and or alcohol use, addictions or past incarcerations).
