Executive Director, Innovation, External Engagement and Industry Relations
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) seeks a dynamic and collaborative tenured faculty member at the University of Connecticut to serve as Executive Director of Innovation, External Engagement and Industry Relations. Reporting to the Vice President for Research, the Executive Director will engage and work strategically with faculty, external partners, and funding agencies to support and articulate UConn’s technology innovation and research capacity.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to collaborate and coordinate across academic and administrative units, including the Office of the Vice President for Research, Government Relations, the UConn Foundation, and deans and department heads within all schools and colleges, to develop and advance new innovation programs and research initiatives.
Representative initiatives will include:
- Act as a new channel for faculty to generate industry-relationships and federal support for basic and applied sponsored research, collaborative partnerships, and technology translation with industry.
Network with industry, academic and federal research labs and institutes, to inform and further strategic development of innovation initiatives for basic and applied research.
Identify and promote initiatives that can provide a wide variety of outlets for applied research through technology transfer and industry partnerships.
Conduct external activities to scout and assess opportunities with foundations, industry and funding agencies.
Plan and conduct strategic outreach efforts independently and with faculty colleagues to build new collaborations through federal program managers that may promote and grow UConn research capacity in key strategic areas.
Develop large-scale interdisciplinary, center-level initiatives and proposals involving multiple researchers, and supporting strategic research development initiatives, including coordination with government agencies, industry and other partners.
Coordinate with OVPR and Government Relations to keep state agencies and congressional offices informed as appropriate, and to gain support for new federal initiatives that align with UConn’s current federal priorities.
The Executive Director will hold an eleven-month appointment (50% as faculty and 50% as executive director) and will receive a combination of course release time and an administrative supplement as compensation.
Applications should include a detailed resume, a statement summarizing the applicant's personal vision, relevant experience, and history of engagement and outreach activities, as well as preferred contact information.
