The Violence Against Women Prevention Program hosts Take Back the Night on Wednesday, April 17th from 7-10 p.m. This annual Take Back The Night rally is a long-standing tradition at the University of Connecticut that seeks to raise awareness about sexual and dating violence affecting members of the community. The evening begins with a short rally/program at 7 in the Student Union ballroom where invited speakers and performers highlight the importance of a community response to this issue. Members of VAWPP then lead a candlelight through campus, which returns back to the Student Union and concludes with a speak out. During this speak out, members of our community will have the chance to share their personal stories surrounding sexual and/or domestic violence. A coffee house takes place at the conclusion of the event at the Women’s Center. The goal of this international event is survivor empowerment and raising awareness about gendered violence, and our theme for this year is “Making the Choice to Reclaim our Voice.”
