  • OVPR Internal Funding Programs Fall 2017 Preview

    As a new semester opens, the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) would like to draw your attention to upcoming OVPR internal funding programs and their deadlines.  Please read below to find out more about these programs, find links to more detailed overviews of each, and to learn about important due dates.  Please visit program websites for guidance about eligibility.  For more information about any of these programs, please contact Dr. Matt Mroz at research@uconn.edu.

     

    SPARK Technology Commercialization Fund

    Brief program description:  SPARK aims to support innovative proof-of-concept studies seeking to translate research discoveries into products, processes, and other commercial applications. We invite proposals from across all disciplines for projects related to commercialization activities.

    Funding available: The OVPR anticipates funding 8 projects up to $50K each

    Special note: The required brief Letter of Intent deadline is tomorrow, Sept 1.

    Next Deadline: LOI due 9/1/2017 at 5PM

     

    Scholarship Facilitation Fund, Spring 2018

    Brief program description:  The Scholarship Facilitation Fund (SFF) is designed to assist faculty in the initiation, completion, or advancement of research projects, scholarly activities, creative works, or interdisciplinary initiatives that are critical to advancing the faculty member’s scholarship and/or creative works.

    Funding available: Up to $2000 per award.

    Special note: Starting with the Spring 2018 competition, the deadlines for the SFF are changing.  Applications for spring funding (projects beginning between 1/1 and 6/30) will be due December 1st.  Applications for fall funding (projects beginning between 7/1 and 12/30) will be due June 1st.

    Research Excellence Program

    Brief program description:  The Research Excellence Program (REP) provides seed funding to fuel innovative research, scholarship, and creative endeavors with strong potential for significant extramural funding from federal sponsors, corporations, industry partners, and foundations and/or achievements consistent with the highest standards of accomplishment in the project’s discipline.

    Funding available:

    • Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Social Sciences, awards up to: Single-PI $25,000 / Multi-PI $50,000
    • Fine Arts, Humanities, Business, Law, and Engagement, awards up to: Single-PI $10,000 / Multi-PI $25,000

    Special note: The REP program guidelines are currently being revised in advance of this year’s competition.  The updated guidelines will be posted by 10/1/2017.  We anticipate beginning to accept applications by 11/1/2017.
