  • 8/30 Candlelight Vigil: One UConn Progressing Together

Candlelight Vigil for Memory and Justice
    Wednesday, August 30
    7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
    Student Union Terrace

As we begin a new year at UConn, we pause to reflect upon the events at Charlottesville and countless lives that have been ended too soon in the long struggle against white supremacy, fascism, anti-semitism, islamophobia, homophobia, patriarchy, and all forms of oppression and marginalization, and to affirm our commitment to building a university and a society free from violence and hatred, which belongs to all of us--regardless of race, religion, gender identity, immigration status, nationality, ethnicity, age, social class, sexual identity, or ability—and which works toward justice.

This vigil is intended as a dignified, warm, and solemn event.  In the coming year, there will be opportunities for analyzing, organizing, mobilizing, and taking action, but for now we take this hour to come together in a moment of reflection, community, and recommitment to democracy and human rights.
