  • Passing of UConn Alumna Erica Illescas

    It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of a recent graduate.  Erica Illescas from Croton-on-Hudson, New York passed away on August 6, 2017. Erica graduated in May 2017 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering.

    Erica was participating in an international research internship in Panama. As an undergraduate, Erica was involved the UConn chapters of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering and a member of Alpha Eta Mu Beta, a Biomedical Engineering honor society.

    Counseling and Mental Health Services (CMHS) is available to provide support to the community at this time of loss.  CMHS office hours are 8:30 -4:00 Monday-Friday and they are located on Arjona 4th floor. Students identified as needing support should be encouraged to either walk in during office hours or call 860-486-4705 to make an appointment. In addition, information about dealing with grief is located on the CMHS website at http://counseling.uconn.edu/dealing-with-grief/

    The Dean of Students Office located on the 2nd floor of Wilbur Cross is available to assist students struggling with the loss of their classmate. You may make an appointment by calling 860-486-3426 or stop in to meet with a staff member during business hours Monday – Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm.

    This is a difficult time for UConn and for the Illescas family.  Condolences to the Illescas family can be sent to the Dean of Students Office, 233 Glenbrook Road, Unit-4062, Storrs, Connecticut 06269-4062.
