  • 8/1 UConn Spring Valley Student Farm Open House

Tuesday Tour on August 1 from 3:00-8:00 PM at UConn Spring Valley Student Farm.

Harvesting of a variety of vegetables is in full swing at the Farm. Come see what is growing at the Farm this summer.

A few of the 11 students living and working at SVSF will welcome you to go on a guided tour. While at the Farm you are free to visit the fields, greenhouses and edible forest garden. The students will explain how they employ organic growing methods to cultivate a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, edible flowers and small fruits for use on the UConn campus.

Come meet our honey bees and other important pollinators, learn about the aquaponic growing system and hear about the air quality monitoring research project happening at the farm this summer.

Would you like to roll up your sleeves and play in the soil? Would you like to learn about food production using organic methods? Then join us on Tuesdays for some hands-on fun with plants and soil.  No previous experience necessary! We provide the tools, techniques and opportunity to explore the fascinating world of healthy local food production. Remember to dress for outdoor conditions.

Our produce is available for purchase at the Farm Fresh Market, in front of Homer Babbidge Library, every Thursday from 11:30 to 1:30 now through September. Enjoy our products prepared in a delicious meal at Chuck and Augie’s restaurant (note Chuck and Augie’s is closed from June 26 through July 31, 2017) and One Plate Two Plates in the Student Union and at select dining halls.

Spring Valley Student Farm is collaboration with Dining Services, Residential Life, College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources, EcoHouse as part of First Year Programs and Learning Communities, Office of Environmental Policy, and Office of Public Engagement – Service Learning.
