  • Seeking Weekend Hosts For International Students

Weekend Hosts Needed for North African & Southeast Asian Students: July 14-16 & September 15-17

UConn's Global Training and Development Institute (GTDI) is excited to offer individuals and families the opportunity to participate in an international program this summer and fall, as homestay hosts for a weekend!

UConn GTDI will welcome 20 college student leaders from North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia) and 22 college student leaders from Southeast Asia (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines) to participate in a five-week program to learn about the U.S. and social entrepreneurship.

The Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) and Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) are sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and they aim to strengthen leadership development in areas of social entrepreneurship. All of the students in the program are fluent in English and were selected by the U.S. Department of State.

Throughout the program, students live in on-campus housing, with the exception of a weekend homestay.  GTDI is seeking families and individuals to host 1-2 students each for a “homestay” weekend:

    • SUSI North Africa: Friday evening, July 14th through Sunday afternoon July 16th
    • YSEALI Southeast Asia: Friday evening, September 15th through Sunday afternoon, September 17th

The homestay is a unique cross-cultural opportunity for students to experience U.S. culture by seeing how residents live and spend their leisure time in this country.
