  • Passing of Student James Haig

    It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of one of our students.  James Haig, a junior from Stratford, Connecticut, passed away on June 3, 2017. James was a junior studying Applied and Resource Economics and his faculty described him as an enthusiastic, engaged, and thoughtful student who was motivated to do well.

    For those wishing to pay their respects, there will be funeral service to honor James on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 12:00pm. The service will be at the Zion Lutheran Church, 780 Grassy Hill Rd, Orange, CT 06477.

    Counseling and Mental Health Services (CMHS) is available to provide support to the community at this time of loss.  CMHS office hours are 8:30 -4:00 Monday-Friday and they are located on Arjona 4th floor. Students identified as needing support should be encouraged to either walk in during office hours or call 860-486-4705 to make an appointment. In addition, information about dealing with grief is located on the CMHS website at http://counseling.uconn.edu/dealing-with-grief/

    The Dean of Students Office located on the 2nd floor of Wilbur Cross is available to assist students struggling with the loss of their classmate. You may make an appointment by calling 860-486-3426 or stop in to meet with a staff member during business hours Monday – Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm.

    This is a difficult time for UConn and for the Haig family.  Condolences to the Haig family can be sent to the Dean of Students Office, 233 Glenbrook Road, Unit-4062, Storrs, Connecticut 06269-4062.
