  • 6/6 Organic Growing Methods Spring Valley Student Farm

Tuesday Tour June 6 at UConn Spring Valley Student Farm!

We invite you to visit UConn’s own Spring Valley Student Farm (SVSF) every Tuesday throughout the summer from 3 PM to 8 PM.  The students living and working at SVSF will lead guided tours of the fields, greenhouses and edible forest garden where they cultivate a wide variety of sustainably grown vegetables, herbs, edible flowers and small fruits. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the on-going Aquaponic IDEA grant and Solar Thermal projects. The tours are open to all!

    Save the Date!

On Tuesday, June 13 from 5:30-6:30, we welcome special guest speaker Mark Brochu. Mark will demonstrate his innovative vertical gardening techniques.EVE takes the best of "non- traditional growing" (hydroponic, aquaponic, aeroponics) coupled with traditional growing to incorporate a growing method like no other. Designed specifically for urban settings where growing grounds are seemingly scarce. EVE can grow healthy food anywhere, and everywhere, with little need to change the actual growing area. From rooftops to paved parking lots, EVE can turn any sunny urban dead space into a lush garden.Call 860-508-7706 or email Julia.cartabiano@uconn.edu for more details.

Would you like to roll up your sleeves and play in the soil? Would you like to learn about food production using organic methods? Then join us on Tuesdays for some hands-on fun with plants and soil.  No previous experience necessary! We provide the tools, techniques and opportunity to explore the fascinating world of healthy local food production. Remember to dress for outdoor conditions.

Our produce is available for purchase at the Farm Fresh Market, in front of Homer Babbidge Library, every Thursday from 11:30 to 1:30 throughout the summer.
