  • Summer 2017 Construction - Utility Infrastructure

Utility infrastructure is the backbone of any campus.  These various systems and services provide critical support so our buildings and programs may perform at optimal and trusted levels.  While most are unseen below the surface, these utilities represent a significant investment over decades of University growth, requiring that all planned development carefully considers the integrity of this infrastructure so its own modernization, expansion or repair may be made effectively and efficiently.

In an effort to meet current and projected demands while increasing energy efficiency, the University will continue to incrementally replace steam and condensate lines that have exceeded their useful life.  This includes work along Hillside Road in front of the School of Business between Jim Calhoun Way and Fairfield Way, and will require vehicular traffic be reduced to a single lane, alternating direction over the course of this summer.  Temporary traffic signals will be located at either end of the work zone to direct vehicles.  Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted around the construction site to the west (Gampel Pavilion) side of Hillside Road, and access to all adjacent buildings will be maintained.

Construction will begin to mobilize this week and is targeted for completion by mid-August.  Some delays should be anticipated while the campus community and visitors become accustomed to these temporary changes to circulation patterns.  We thank you for your patience and appreciate your understanding while we work to ensure our campus facilities can meet current and future needs.
