  • Search: Dean for the School of Nursing

    To the University Community:

I am pleased to announce the national search for the next Dean of the School of Nursing. I have appointed a search committee to advise me about outstanding leaders who can provide executive direction and strategic vision for the School. We will conduct the search over the next several weeks.

The School of Nursing, founded in 1942, is fully accredited, and is committed to quality scholarship and public service. Its faculty members advance knowledge through excellence in education and research in a dynamic environment of changing healthcare needs. The successful candidate for Dean will be a farsighted executive with a deep understanding of the nursing profession, and a sophisticated grasp of how to successfully promote excellence in scholarship, teaching, public service, and outreach. The Dean will guide, support, shape, and articulate an emerging new vision for the School and its role at the state, national, and international levels at a time of exciting growth and change at UConn.

The advisory search committee will be chaired by Cameron Faustman, Interim Dean of the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. The members of the committee are:

    • Cheryl Beck, Distinguished Professor, School of Nursing, and School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology
    • Ann Marie Capo, Vice President, Quality & Patient Services, and Chief Nursing Officer, UConn Health
    • Pamela Cartledge, Student Services Coordinator, School of Nursing
    • Joy Elwell, Associate Clinical Professor and Director, DNP Program, School of Nursing
    • Ann Marie Garran, Associate Professor and MSW Program Director, School of Social Work
    • Philip Hritcko, Associate Dean for Admissions & Student Affairs, School of Pharmacy, and Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice
    • Angela Starkweather, Professor and Director of Center for Advancement in Managing Pain, School of Nursing

Paul Chou and Abbe Ulrich of the executive search firm Korn Ferry will assist the committee in securing a distinguish pool of candidates. If you would like to discuss the position or nominate a candidate, please contact the Korn Ferry consultants at uconn-nursing@kornferry.com. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about the search, please contact Connie Boyd at connie.boyd@uconn.edu

Candidate recruiting will begin immediately. Additional information about the position, including position description and how to apply or nominate candidates, will be posted on the Provost’s website (http://provost.uconn.edu/senior-administrative-searches) and the Human Resources website (http://hr.uconn.edu/jobs/) soon. We anticipate candidates will visit UConn in May. They will meet with various groups and conduct public forums to discuss their approach to leadership. We welcome your participation in this process. Schedules of the visits and opportunities for you to participate and provide feedback will be announced later this semester.
