  • 3/22 Martha Potvin Public Talk

Sent on behalf of Jeremy Teitelbaum, Professor of Mathematics and Interim Provost

The University community is invited to a public talk by Martha Potvin, Provost/VPAA of Springfield College, on March 22 at 4:00pm at Konover Auditorium. Faculty are particularly encouraged to attend her talk: Reducing the Gender Gap in STEM Faculty Hiring as a Prelude to Supporting the Needs of a Diverse Faculty: The Need for a Full-Court Press. The talk will also be available via livestream here.

A UConn alumna of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Dr. Potvin served as Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Dakota and subsequently as the Executive VPAA/Provost at Montana State University.  At Montana State she was the co-PI on their NSF ADVANCE grant, Project TRACS: Empirically Investigating Transformation through Relatedness, Autonomy, and Competency Support.  The TRACS project had a significant impact not only on hiring practices at Montana State that contributed to a substantial increase in gender diversity in their STEM and social and behavioral sciences, but also resulted in sustainable changes to policies, process and work-life balance for faculty in all disciplines. Other outcomes of the grant have led to several peer-reviewed scholarly articles and the 2015 Inclusion Cultivates Excellence Award from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources.
