    Global Affairs is seeking nominations for multiple Universitas 21 summer event. These are amazing opportunities for students and I strongly encourage you to read the details below and nominate students for the three programs.

    U21 Social Entrepreneur Corps IN ECUADOR

    Location: Ceunca, Ecuador and Loja, Ecuador

    Dates: June 25- July 2, 2017

    Eligible Students: 2nd year undergraduate students and above with a minimum 3.4 GPA

    Program Fee: $3,650 (Global Affairs will subsidize up to two students’ program fees. Students are responsible for airfare and other related costs)

    Summary: The Universitas 21 Social Entrepreneur Corps is a four-week immersive program in Ecuador where students will have the opportunity to participate in individual and group development projects, study Spanish, stay with Ecuadoran families, explore different locations, and directly contribute to the economic development of rural Ecuador. This opportunity is open to all majors.

     

    U21 Undergraduate Research Conference: Future Societies, Global Citizens

    Location: University of Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom

    Dates: June 26- June 30, 2017

    Eligible Students: Undergraduate Students

    Submit nominations to Global Affairs by March 1, 2017: http://s.uconn.edu/3ii

    Program Fee: There is no program fee. (Global Affairs will subsidize up to two students' airfare and accommodations, students will be responsible for all other costs such meals and incidentals)

    Summary: The 2017 Universitas 21 Undergraduate Research Conference will have four main themes: development, health, justice and the environment. Students will discuss and present on these themes, allowing them to hone their research, public speaking, and networking skills. Additionally, students will interact with acclaimed academics, intermingle with peers from around the world, and have a chance to participate in extracurricular events to explore Scotland. If a faculty member is interested in accompanying the student they nominate, please contact Christina Wong at christina.wong@uconn.edu.

      

    U21 Summer School:

    Fabricating Design Spaces

    Location: University of Johannesburg, South Africa

    Dates: June 26- July 14, 2017

    Eligible Students: 2nd year undergraduate students with a design background

    Program Fee: $4000 (U21 will cover the tuition fees, accommodation, and basic food for the 10 nominated U21 students. Global Affairs will subsidize one student’s airfare.)

    Summary: This year’s U21 Summer School with take place at the University of Johannesburg and will be run by the Department of Jewelry. Students will receive both theoretical and practical expertise in design along with courses which cover course covers health and safety, studio equipment, materials for design, metal preparation, business of design, fashion design and jewelry making.
