Scholarly Colloquia and Events

  • 2/15 ESL Conversation Partner Volunteers Needed

    Dear faculty and staff,

One or two-time volunteers are needed to assist with the Oral Communcation/Presentation Evening English Course offered by UCAELI, the University of Connecticut American English Language Institute (http://ucaeli.uconn.edu/). This course is intended for international graduate students and visiting scholars who are seeking to improve their English communication and presentation skills in an academic setting. This semester, the class welcomes 13 students from China, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. As many of them are hoping to become TAs, it is critical for them to have many opportunities to interact with native English speakers and American undergraduates. We would be absolutely thrilled if you could join us during one or both of the following sessions:

    Wednesday, 2/15: 6:30-7:30 pm

    Monday, 3/6: 6:30-7:30 pm

Your role would be to watch the students give informal presentations in small groups and then to provide feedback to them regarding specific elements. I would like to add that these students are often very accomplished in their respective fields, and are eager to sharpen their English language skills. You're sure to have some fascinating conversations!

Please email the instructor at krista.rogers@uconn.edu to RSVP for one or both sessions.
