  • Charitable Giving is Consistent w/ UConn's Mission

It never occurred to Preston Britner, Human Development Professor at UConn, not to give back to the community.  During a recent interview, he shared with me that he feels fortunate to have a great job at UConn, combining teaching, research, and service for the good of the state and its citizens.

Over the past 20 years, through this campaign, he has given to a variety of charities. He regularly supports the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp (Ashford, CT) and the Center for Children’s Advocacy (Hartford, CT; affiliated with the UConn Law School).  The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides a wonderful respite for families and a sense of fun and belonging to children with medical conditions.  The Center for Children’s Advocacy provides direct legal assistance for children and youth who are homeless, in foster care, or otherwise marginalized, as well as working on changing the state systems that should be serving those youths.

Preston feels both organizations provide tremendous services.  They also are good about studying their work so that they can be as effective as possible.  His own research is focused on children and families, and he feels both organizations do such great work in helping those who are in need of support.  He’s happy to support their efforts. In his opinion, charitable giving to organizations that are making a difference in Connecticut, just seems to be consistent with our whole Land Grant mission at the University.
