  • 10/18 All That Glitters is GOuLD

The University of Connecticut Symphonic Band Presents “All That Glitters is GOuLD”. Dr. David Mills, conductor. 8PM von der Mehden Recital Hall.

For one night only, come to von der Mehden Recital Hall to see the University of Connecticut Symphonic Band perform a variety of pieces from American composer Morton Gould. The pieces will begin with the bombastic “Fanfare for Freedom” before moving on to the more introverted and quiet piece “Ballad for Band”. After that, the Symphonic Band will present the multicultural piece “Santa Fe Saga”, wherein Gould combines the Southwestern cultures of Mexicans and Americans into one striking and evocative piece. After a brief intermission, the band will perform two pieces not written by Gould: Julie Giroux’s soothing fifth movement of “Bookmarks from Japan”, “Evening Snow at Kambara”, and Norman Dello Joio’s bombastic “Satiric Dances”. The performance will be held at the von der Mehden Recital Hall, 875 Coventry Rd., Storrs on October 18th. General admission is $10. Students and children are free. Plenty of free, well-lit parking across the street.
