  • 20-Minute Mentor: Critical Thinking

Every Monday, Magna Publications provides UConn faculty members with access to a 20-minute video from its “Monday Morning Mentor” presentation series.  This series offers video-based programs designed to answer a specific question related to teaching and learning, delivering actionable insights in highly focused 20-minute presentations designed to fit busy schedules.

This week’s program, “How Can I Design Critical Thinking Into My Courses?" identifies both general and discipline-specific critical thinking skills and how to turn these skills into good student learning outcomes. Learn to define critical thinking when designing or redesigning courses and identify the type of content conducive to practicing critical thinking. At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to 

    • Explain what critical thinking is (and is not) 
    • Identify the course content suitable for teaching critical thinking 
    • Write assessable critical thinking student learning outcomes that are compatible with and make sense in your discipline 
    • Integrate critical thinking into the design of your new or existing courses

This video is available here www.mondaymorningmentors.com (password critical23) from Monday, October 3 – Sunday, October 9, 2016.
