    UConn Spring Valley Student Farm – Pollinator Workshop

    Save the Date! Tuesday, August 16, 2016 5:30-7:00 PM

    What do butterflies, bees and hummingbirds have in common? Come to Spring Valley Student Farm to learn about the diversity of pollinators, how they help you and how you can help them! Get tips on how to attract pollinators to your yard. See pollinators in action and get involved with some fun activities at the Farm.  Learn about building a Certified Backyard Habitat. The special Pollinator Workshop at SVSF on Tuesday, August 16 from 5:30-7:00 PM is suitable for all ages. For more information please contact Farm Manager Julia.Cartabiano@uconn.edu.

    In addition to the Pollinator Workshop the students living and working at SVSF will lead guided tours of the fields, greenhouses and edible forest garden from 3:00-8:00 PM. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the on-going Aquaponic IDEA grant and Solar Thermal projects. The tours are open to all.

    Feel free to join us any Tuesday through August 23 for some hands-on learning with plants and soil.  No previous experience necessary! We provide the tools, techniques and opportunity to explore the fascinating world of healthy food production. Remember to dress for outdoor conditions.

    SVSF produce is served at Chuck and Augie’s restaurant and One Plate Two Plates in the Student Union and at select dining halls. It is available for purchase at the Farm Fresh Market located in the garden directly behind the William Benton Museum of Art every Thursday from 11:30 to 1:30 May through August.

    Spring Valley Student Farm is collaboration with Dining Services, Residential Life, College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources, EcoHouse as part of First Year Programs and Learning Communities, Office of Environmental Policy, and Office of Public Engagement – Service Learning.
