Research, Funding, and Awards

  • Vice President for Research Recognized for Service

Jeffrey Seemann, vice president for research, will soon receive a prestigious award for activism and service from the Connecticut State Conference of the American Association of University Professors. The 2016 Walter F. Brady Jr. Award for the Advancement of Higher Education in Connecticut is named for long-time Connecticut College Mathematics Professor and former CSC-AAUP president Walter Brady, who “left a legacy of principled activism and gentlemanly enthusiasm.” Santhanam Lakshminarayanan, division chief of rheumatology at UConn Health, nominated Seemann for the award. “Dr. Seemann has been an advocate for expanding research faculty hires and high technology research core facilities, both of which are essential for faculty to remain competitive for limited grants and contracts,” noted Lakshminarayanan, who serves as president of UConn Health’s AAUP Chapter. “Such partnerships between AAUP and University leaders will be critical towards enhancing the role of UConn as a leader in education, research and medicine for years to come.” Seemann is slated to receive the award May 12.
