  • EAPondering - Inaccurate Self-Perceptions Can Hurt

A message from your Employee Assistance Program

Common wisdom has for decades suggested that “you are what you eat.” According to most thought leaders in behavioral health these days, however, it is far more likely that we are, or at least we act as if we were, whatever we happen to believe about ourselves. And sadly enough, all too often that self-image ends up hurting us terribly because typically it portrays a false, or at best inaccurate, representation of who we really are.

Dr. Susan Noonan, MD writes a very insightful article in PsychologyToday.com about the harm that we often inflict on ourselves due to negative self-talk messages that contribute to poor self-esteem. Follow, or copy and paste the link:

If you would like to talk about self-esteem, or any other concern, the UConn EAP provides confidential, free, professional consultation and brief counseling for faculty, staff, graduate assistants and household family members to help identify and resolve problems or concerns affecting you, your family or your job.
