  • Earthquake in Ecuador

    Dear all,

On Friday April 16th, Ecuador was hit by one of the strongest Earthquakes in nearly 60 years. More than 525 people lost their lives, 7,015 were injured, and several coastal towns were devasted during this tragedy. The numbers are still uncertain and expected to rise.

Ecuadorians are doing as much as possible. Besides mobilizing resources locally, a very recent initiative is to donate a one-time amount equivalent to a daily wage.
Ecuador is tremendously grateful with the world's response. The U.S, Europe, China, Singapore, and almost every country in Latin America, just to mention a few, have provided massive humanitarian assistance.

But there are still many things left to do. I have been in touch with other Ecuadorian students living in the area, and learned about links to contribute with goods and donations.
Here I'm listing three websites. The first is the official site of the Ecuadorian Consulate in Connecticut, while the second is a gofundme site from Ely Wright. She is a student from Hampshire College, and an awesome activist who has experience in humanitarian causes. The third is a creative and simple mechanism  "Give me five for Ecuador", where you can make a $5 donation, and if you wish, upload a selfie in Facebook and tag 5 friends to keep a chain of donations.
Please consider donating through any mechanism.

Hope is not lost. This is an opportunity to build stronger and more resilient communities with the world's help.

    Thank you,
