"The Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds:  Partnering to conserve threatened coastal birds in Connecticut

    By Patrick Comins

Director of Bird Conservation for Connecticut, Connecticut Audubon Society

Beach-nesting waterbirds including Piping Plovers, Least Tern and American Oystercatcher and island-nesting colonial wading birds such as Snowy and Great Egrets are among the most threatened groups of nesting birds in the state.  Additionally, many species of global conservation concern, including Semi-palmated Sandpipers and Red Knots, utilize our beaches and marshes as critical rest stops on the Atlantic Flyway for their long-distance migrations to and from nesting grounds in the Arctic to wintering areas in South America and the Caribbean.   Come learn about what is being done to conserve these birds and their habitats in Connecticut and what you can do to help!
