  • 3/14 Outside Sirens Being Tested on Some Campuses

As part of its commitment to provide the highest service in public safety, the UConn Fire Department will be testing the outside siren systems this week on the Storrs, Depot, Greater Hartford and School of Law campuses.

These tests will occur at various times TODAY (March 14), with the Hartford-area tests scheduled in the morning and the Storrs-area tests anticipated this afternoon or Tuesday.

The testing may continue into Wednesday and would conclude by the end of the day Thursday, if not sooner.

The sirens’ loudspeakers will be activated with emergency tones, voice messages, or a combination thereof. The activations usually will be preceded by an announcement that a test is about to occur, and the volumes will not be loud enough to interrupt classes or other daily activities.

In the case of an actual emergency, information would be posted on the University’s Alert site at www.alert.uconn.edu.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to visit the site now and register your cell phone number to receive text notifications about emergencies, weather-related delays and other changes in regular operations.

Thank you in advance for your understanding during the testing of the siren systems, and for your ongoing support of public safety efforts at the University.
