  • Faculty Engagement Fellowship 2016-2017


    One of the four core values of UConn is Global Engagement…Through outreach, research, and partnerships, we promote sustainable development and a happy, healthy, and inclusive society. This engagement is local and global, based on intercultural understanding and recognition of the transnational nature of the challenges and opportunities we face.

    Additionally, one of the five strategic goals in the current Academic Plan is “A path toward excellence in engagement”. The Office of Public Engagement was developed to “support faculty and staff in scholarly outreach efforts.”

    Eligibility


    The Fellowship is open to faculty in all disciplines at UConn Storrs and all regional campuses. Tenured, tenure track and in-residence faculty with one or more years remaining on their multi-year contract are eligible. The Fellowship is an opportunity to enhance engaged scholarship as it includes funding for a one course release for an academic semester.


    Purpose
    The purpose of the Engagement Fellowship is to support, promote, recognize, and facilitate faculty projects in areas of engagement…working with communities, researching with communities, sharing with communities and/or helping communities address areas of concern.


    Application


    Each application should include the following supporting documents:


    1. Narrative description of the project (maximum two pages, double spaced, 12 point font);

    2. Brief explanation of how the project relates to your current and future work;

    3. Current CV;

    4. Department head commitment to one course release (OPE will provide the Department the funds for course coverage at the current AAUP per credit cost);


    5. Two letters of support from department head, community partner, other university faculty, and/or administrator.

    Criteria for Evaluation


    The following criteria will be used in evaluating applications for the Engagement Fellowship:

    1. The significance of the contribution the project will make to the communities with whom you are or are planning to engage;

    2. The quality of the conception and description of the project;

    3. The interest of the community partner in the project.

    4. The prior experience of the faculty member working with communities.

     

    The deadline for applications is March 15, 2016.
