American Diabetes Association Pathway to Stop Diabetes

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) would like to announce the American Diabetes Association initiative, Pathway to Stop Diabetes.  The Pathway to Stop Diabetes is a limited submission program, and as such the OVPR will be conducting an internal screening process.

Pathway to Stop Diabetes® is a bold, innovative initiative designed to radically transform diabetes research. Its vision is simple yet revolutionary: find a new generation of brilliant scientists at the peak of their creativity, then provide them with the freedom, autonomy, and financial and professional resources to set them on the road to breakthrough discoveries.

This initiative enables scientists to advance not only their research, but also their careers. Pathway scientists have access to the Mentor Advisory Group, an annual Pathway symposium, select speaking opportunities, and innovative technologies, all designed to foster interactions and collaborations that will enable them to accelerate their research progress.

Pathway supports innovative basic, clinical, translational, epidemiological, behavioral, or health services research relevant to any diabetes type, diabetes-related disease state, or diabetes complication. The Association seeks exceptional candidates from a broad range of disciplines, including medicine, biology, chemistry, computing, physics, mathematics and engineering.

    Limited Submission

Because only one nomination can be submitted for this program, an internal screening process is required.  If you are considering submitting an application for the program listed below, an on-line Notification of Intent to Submit must be completed by the requested Intent to Submit Deadline.

Investigators are asked to submit pre-proposals for the internal screening process as per the Guidelines submitting by the requested Internal Screening Deadline.  Please be sure to review the Guidelines for updates. Pre-proposals not adhering to these guidelines and instructions will be returned.

    Program Requirements

Limit:  Each institution is allowed a maximum of one nomination. The nomination can be in one of the three available Pathway award types:

    • Initiator (for researchers in postdoctoral training)
    • Accelerator (for early-career diabetes investigators)
    • Visionary (for established investigators, new to diabetes)

Intent to Submit Deadline:  2/22/2016, 5:00 PM
Internal Screening Deadline: 3/11/2016, 5:00 PM
    Sponsor Deadline:  July 1, 2016
