Dr. Krystyna Gielo-Perczak, of the Biomedical Engineering Department, and graduate student researchers are seeking research participants for a study assessing the recovery time of individuals with previous Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tears.
We seek 20 UConn students that have torn their ACL within the last year, as well as 20 healthy individuals. From this study we hope to develop a new physical therapy technique that will improve the recovery time after ACL injury. During the study, participants will be asked to do three different exercises including squats, sit-to-stand exercises, and walking on a treadmill.
Eligibility for the study requires men and women who are:
- Between the ages of 18 and 23 years
- Must have torn your ACL and no other surrounding knee ligaments
- ACL reconstruction surgery within the last year
- Able to walk as part of the therapy program
