  • Why I Give to CSEC: Priscilla Kessler

For those of us at the Storrs campus it is easier than ever to take part in this year's Connecticut State Employees Giving Campaign, because you can do it entirely online at https://www.givingmatters365.org/_ctemployeegiving/. If you prefer the old-fashioned way, simply follow the link to the print donation form and fax your form to Paula Enderle at 860-486-0379 or email it to paula.enderle@uconn.edu

Since the campaign began in October, we’ve been asking some employees who’ve routinely given to their favorite charities this way to tell us why they give and how they decide which charities to give to. We will continue to share their stories with you periodically here and at http://csec.uconn.edu. Here’s what Fiscal Manager Priscilla Kessler shared:

Why I Give to CSEC: Priscilla Kessler

I believe everyone agrees that giving is a privilege and that it feels better to give than receive. Connecticut State Employees’ Campaign (CSEC) http://www.employeegiving.ct.gov/ makes it easy.

Prior to participating in CSEC, my contributions to charities were random and based on when family members asked for donations or when I did my own fund-raising for diabetes. Tax time was scrambling to gather the receipts and total it up. Now I complete one form with the charities of my choice, which always includes Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and I have only one receipt at tax time. Love it!

Another reason I participate with the CSEC is that it has researched the more than 700 charities we can give to. The online directory includes a short description of the organization, along with the percent of your donation that will be used for administration expenses. This assures me that I’m not being scammed and that my donation is going straight to the cause intended.

I also appreciate the option to spread my donation out over the whole year through payroll deductions with no additional charge to me. Tax time is a breeze and I have a good feeling that people in my community and/or worldwide are being helped!

Paying it forward is made easy with this campaign! My goal each year is to outdo the previous year.
