Summary
Children express creative processes when they engage in pretend play. In pretend play, children make-up stories and images from scratch. This activity sets the stage for adult creativity in many different domains.
In this talk, I will review the creative processes in play and how we measure them using the Affect in Play Scale. I will also review the research literature that investigates 1) the correlates of pretend play and 2) the effectiveness of play interventions to facilitate pretend play and creativity. Finally, I will present a few brief case studies of creative adults that utilize processes similar to those in pretend play.
