Research, Funding, and Awards

  • NSF PFI:BIC Limited Submission Opportunity

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) would like to announce the Partnerships for Innovation: Building Innovation Capacity (PFI:BIC) sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The PFI:BIC program is a limited submission award, and as such the OVPR will be conducting an internal screening process.

The PFI:BIC supports academe-industry partnerships, which are led by an interdisciplinary academic research team collaborating with at least one industry partner in order to carry out research to advance, adapt, and integrate technology(ies) into a specified, human-centered smart service system. The selected service system should function as a technology test bed.

Partnership projects are unrestricted as to domain knowledge and application areas and should be in the translational, pre-commercialization space, building on fundamental research discoveries with the objective of creating or transforming a “smart(er)” service system that has the potential for significant social and economic impact.

    Limited Submission

Because only two (2) proposals as a lead institution can be submitted for this program, an internal screening process is required. If you are considering submitting a proposal for this program an on-line Notification of Intent to Submit must be completed by the requested Intent to Submit Deadline.

When submitting pre-proposals for the internal screening process, be sure to check the Guidelines for updates. Pre-proposals not adhering to these guidelines and instructions will be returned.  If you are planning to resubmit a previous proposal or pre-proposal, you must include reviewers’ comments with your submission.
