  • Confocal Microscopy Facility Announcements

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), Biotechnology-Bioservices Center (BBC) is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Christopher O'Connell to the Confocal Microscopy Facility.  Dr. O'Connell received his Ph.D. from Yale in 2006 and has served as a super resolution systems product manager at Nikon Instruments Inc. for the past four years.  Dr. O'Connell's expertise will undoubtedly serve as a significant asset to the faculty and students who utilize advanced light microscopy in their research, and we are excited to welcome him to UConn and the BBC.

Though he only arrived about a month ago, Dr. O'Connell has already set up a new website for the Confocal Microscopy Facility and organized an introductory workshop to be held in mid-October (see information below).  Please feel free to contact him by email (coconnell@uconn.edu), phone (6-3271), or stop by his office in the Biology/Physics Building  (room G13A, located on the ground floor within the Electron Microscopy Facility) to discuss your microscopy needs.

    Workshop information

The Confocal Microscopy Facility within the Biotechnology-Bioservices Center will be holding an inaugural workshop to introduce faculty to services provided.  Researchers with an interest in advanced light microscopy from all departments are welcome to attend.  The workshop will take place in two sessions on separate days.  Session 1 is on Friday, October 16th and will consist of an overview of the facility, its services, and the equipment given by Dr. O'Connell.  Following this, researchers are invited to give short, 3 min. presentations about their microscopy work.  Session 2 is the “hands-on” portion of the workshop that will take place on Thursday, October 22nd.  Representatives from Leica Microsystems, Nikon Instruments, and facility staff will work with participants on several of the microscopes.
