Distinguished Faculty Lecture Series: Dr. Tamika LaSalle

Each month faculty and staff members are invited to give an interactive lecture on “lessons learned” during their journey in and outside of academia. At the conclusion of the lecture graduate students engage faculty in an informal question and answer session. Please bring your snack, a friend and plenty of questions. This is guaranteed to be a great time!

Dr. La Salle received her Ph.D. in school psychology from Georgia State University and joined the faculty at UConn in 2013. Her primary areas of research interests include culturally responsive education practices, school climate and the interrelationships cultural and ecological variables including the community, family, and school on student outcomes. Dr. La Salle is also interested in access to education for students with disabilities. Currently, Dr. La Salle serves as a consultant to the Georgia Department of Education and is piloting a school climate survey for students, school personnel, and parents. She is also beginning to examine the impact of Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports on perceptions of school climate. Dr. La Salle is currently working on the School Reform Research Cluster focusing on issues related to the achievement gap for underserved populations. She serves as a committee member on the National Association of School Psychology Minority Scholarship Board supporting recipients in their career development. She has done consulting work for the Mississippi, Georgia, and University of Pittsburg Departments of Education. Prior to joining the faculty Dr. La Salle worked as a special education teacher and a contract school psychologist in Georgia.
