    Presentation to Participants

Hi, my name is Alex Molaver, and I’m a graduate student in the Human Development and Family Studies Department. I’m conducting a study under the guidance of my faculty advisor, Kari Adamsons, and under the additional guidance of Ronald Rohner. The study I’m conducting looks at different instruments for measuring loneliness in order to determine which is best to use in conjunction with measures of personality characteristics and parental acceptance and rejection from Dr. Rohner’s Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection Theory. This is a pilot study and it is expected that this study will allow for further research about loneliness as a potential consequence of parental rejection in childhood. I’d like to invite you to participate in this study. A link to the survey containing a full description of the study will be posted. If you choose to participate, questions will be asked about you, your personality characteristics, your experiences with loneliness, and your childhood experiences with parental acceptance and rejection. This survey should take about 20 minutes to complete, and your personally identifying information will not be collected. Any results reported will be reported in summary form, so you will not be identified individually in any way in any published or presented findings from the study. Your participation or non-participation in the survey will not affect your course grade in any way, and your instructor will not know who has chosen to participate or not participate.

If you have any questions about the study, please feel free to contact me at Alex.Molaver@uconn.edu or my faculty advisor at Kari.Adamsons@uconn.edu or (860) 486-8971. This contact information is also contained in the online survey. Thank you for your help with this study!
