  • Note to Academic Bldg Contacts re: Custodial Svcs

Facilities Operations and Building Services is pleased to announce the addition of DTZ, the new contracted custodial management firm responsible for cleaning certain academic and administrative areas on the Storrs campus.

We engaged DTZ as part of our ongoing efforts to fully develop and improve housekeeping services, and are highly encouraged by a great start with the company since its contract began Aug. 1. We appreciate your cooperation, support, and patience during the initial transition as the new management staff becomes familiar with the buildings.

Beginning on Nov. 1, approximately 1 million square feet of cleanable space in academic and administrative buildings at Storrs will transition to an in-house team of custodians employed by UConn. We have long used this model for the residential areas and have had a very high success rate.

We are currently hiring supervisors for the in-house custodial team, with DTZ temporarily managing this area until Nov. 1.

We are also pleased to announce that Patricia Guay Richards, who brings more than 15 years of on-the-job experience at UConn, will be our new Housekeeping Development Manager for these buildings. She will be working in partnership with Mary Spruell, who holds the same level position and responsibilities in the athletic spaces, rental properties and special project areas.

Moving forward, we also seek to streamline communications with housekeeping issues. Wherever you are on campus, the best and most efficient way to report a housekeeping or maintenance issue is to contact Work Order Control at (860) 486-3113.

In addition, please feel free to contact aris.ristau@uconn.edu about any ongoing concerns that need to be addressed.
