University Policy Information

  • Use of Students in Outside Employment

    Dear Colleagues,

The University has a long-standing policy on the Use of Students in Outside Employment. As part of this policy, University employees must obtain written approval from their Department Head/Dean/Director prior to hiring a student in any non-University supported setting.

Effective July 14, the policy now requires additional approval from the Dean of the Graduate School in circumstances when a faculty member wishes to hire a graduate student and teaches a course in which the student is enrolled, serves as a member of the student's thesis or dissertation committee, or serves as the student's advisor or the director of his or her thesis or dissertation research.
