I am pleased to announce that Kohya Lu has been selected as the Director of Residence Education/Associate Director of Residential Life. Kohya joins the UConn staff after serving as the Associate Director for the Office of Residence Life at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  In this position he supervised professional staff, coordinated departmental assessment initiatives, served on the university care team and provided leadership, direction, and oversight to the department's Living Learning Community Program.  His prior experience includes roles at Florida Gulf Coast University, Binghamton University and Rutgers University.

Kohya's current involvement includes serving on the Directorate Boards for the Commission for Housing and Residential Life and the Asian Pacific American Network with ACPA, serving as the New Professionals' Liaison for the BACHA Steering Board, and participation as a Regional Entry Level Institute (RELI) Faculty Member.  In addition, he was recently selected as a Dialogue Group Facilitator for the 2015 Institute on Social Justice with ACPA, and has been appointed to the NEACUHO Executive Board for 2015.

When asked about the role at UConn, Kohya stated: “I am looking forward to being a part of a vibrant and diverse student, staff, and faculty community that has great pride for the institution.”

I would like to express thanks to Cathy Cocks, Search Committee Chair, and the entire Committee for the many hours of dedicated service to the university as they help to recruit an accomplished professional to the Department of Residential Life.
