  • UConn Center on Aging/CICATS Small Grant Awards

    The UConn Center on Aging (UCA) is pleased to announce that the following applicants from the UConn community have received awards for selected research core services. These awards were made possible with the support of CICATS, and aim to help encourage a significant growth in the size of the overall institutional portfolio in aging research as discussed at the UConn-Jackson Lab Symposium on Aging held in March 2014.

    • Kenneth Campellone, PhD: “Cytoskeletal control of autophagy and IL-1b secretion during immune cell aging.”

    • Jessica Clement, MD: The impact of smoking on the outcomes of older patients receiving curative intent treatment for non-metastatic, muscle invasive bladder cancer: a pilot study.”

    • Kamal Khanna, PhD: CMV and Immune Responses to Infection in Old Age."

    • Liping Xiao, PhD: Bone Sequelae of Ketamine as Antidepressant in Aged Mice.”

    • Kourosh Parham, MD, PhD: “Development of an inner ear biomarker for diagnosis of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in older adults.”

    • Yin Wu and Linda Pescatello, PhD: “Comparing The Benefits of Practicing Two Tai Chi Routines Designed For Different Health Outcomes."
