  • Searle Scholars Program

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) would like to announce that the Searle Scholars Program has invited the University to nominate a candidate to support the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry.

The Searle Scholars Program supports research of outstanding individuals who have recently begun their appointment at the assistant professor level, and whose appointment is their first tenure-track position.  Grants are $300,000 for a three-year term with $100,000 payable each year of the grant, subject to the receipt of acceptable progress reports.  Generally, the program makes 15 new grants annually.

Applicants are expected to pursue independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences.  Candidates should have begun their appointments as independent investigators at the assistant professor level on or after July 1, 2014.

    Limited Submission

Because only one nomination can be submitted, an internal screening process is required.  If you are considering submitting an application for the program, an on-line Notification of Intent to Submit must be completed by the requested Intent to Submit Deadline.

When submitting pre-proposals for the internal screening process, be sure to check the Guidelines for updates.  Pre-proposals not adhering to these guidelines and instructions will be returned.
