  • 5/28 Preview Reception Today for Bread & Puppet Exhibit

THERE ARE GIANT 20-FOOT-TALL PUPPETS in the East Gallery of THE WILLIAM BENTON MUSEUM OF ART!

COME SEE THEM TODAY at a PREVIEW OPENING RECEPTION
for SPEAK UP! SPEAK OUT! BREAD & PUPPET THEATER

Thursday, May 28, from 4:30 to 7 pm

The Benton is pleased to be collaborating with the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry to present this exhibition of awesome puppets ranging in height up to 20 feet, masks, paintings, and other works from Peter Schumann’s Bread & Puppet Theater, the unique company whose activist responses to fundamental political and social issues have defined American culture over the past 50 years — including the war in Vietnam; Central American turmoil and Liberation Theology; the politics of black liberation as represented by the Attica prison uprising and the M.O.V.E. family in Philadelphia; opposition to nuclear weapons and nuclear power; and the war in Iraq.

SPEAK UP! SPEAK OUT! will remain up through October 11.
    Museum hours are Tuesday-Friday 10-4:30, Saturday & Sunday 1-4:30.
    Admission is, as always, free.
