The Global Training and Development Institute (GTDI) is excited to offer individuals and families the opportunity to participate in an exciting program this summer! Through U.S. Department of State grant funds, GTDI will conduct a Summer Institute for Student Leaders in Social Entrepreneurship. The Summer Institute teaches students about the United States and helps them develop leadership and social entrepreneurship skills. They then apply these skills to address challenges in their home countries. Forty university student leaders from North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa will participate in the five-week program. All of the participants are fluent in English and were selected by the U.S. Department of State.
Throughout the program students live in on-campus apartments, with the exception of a weekend homestay. GTDI is seeking families and individuals to host one or two students for a ‘homestay’ weekend, beginning Friday evening, July 24th through Sunday afternoon/evening July 26th. The goal of the homestay is for students to experience American culture by seeing how Americans live and spend their leisure time.
This is a great cross-cultural opportunity to learn about North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, and to develop new friendships. This is the sixth year UConn has hosted the program and previous host families have found the experience to be very rewarding. Please contact Danielle DeRosa, danielle.derosa@uconn.edu or 860-486-6305, if you would like to participate or have questions. Thank you for your interest.
