Research, Funding, and Awards

  • OVPR - Faculty Spotlight

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) would like to congratulate Dr. Andrew Puckett, Assistant Professor of Physics, on his recent award from the Department of Energy, Office of Science Early Career Research Program. The major objective of Dr. Puckett’s project, “Three-dimensional Structure of the Nucleon,” is the execution of a family of experiments in Jefferson Lab’s experimental Hall A known as the Super BigBite Spectrometer (SBS) program. The planned physics program of SBS will dramatically improve the world’s knowledge of two complementary aspects of nucleon structure through (1) measurement of the spatial distributions of the nucleon's electric charge and magnetism at distance scales approximately twenty times smaller than the charge radius of the proton; and (2) probing of the neutron's three-dimensional spin structure with unprecedented precision.

The Early Career Research program supports the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and stimulates research careers in the disciplines supported by the DOE Office of Science. Dr. Puckett’s project was one of only 44 proposals selected for funding from a pool of 620 applications to this highly competitive and selective program.

The Office of the Vice President for Research applauds Dr. Puckett for his commitment to research excellence, and congratulates him on this important achievement!
