About the Speaker:
Gary G. Bennett, PhD is professor of psychology, global health, and medicine at Duke University. He directs the Duke Global Digital Health Science Center and the Duke Obesity Prevention Program. Dr. Bennett's research program designs, tests, and disseminates digital health obesity treatments for the primary care setting. Dr. Bennett developed the interactive obesity treatment approach (iOTA), which has been tested in a range of populations, both domestically and abroad. He has authored more than 100 papers on the social determinants of obesity and the effectiveness of obesity intervention strategies in high risk populations. Prior to joining Duke in 2009, Dr. Bennett served on the faculties of the Harvard School of Public Health and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Dr. Bennett is also involved in the dissemination of evidence based digital health treatments. He co-founded Crimson Health Solutions, which developed behavior change interventions for the disease management sector; Health Dialog acquired Crimson in 2007. Dr. Bennett has a PhD in clinical health psychology from Duke University and completed a residency at Duke University Medical Center, prior to postdoctoral studies in social epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.
