Special Events and Receptions

  • 4/16 "We Hear You, UConn"

UConn students, faculty and staff are invited to a gathering on Thursday, April 16, 2014 at the “spirit rock” to discuss their observations and suggestions as we pursue our shared commitment to a campus climate that welcomes and respects diverse views.

The Department of Residential Life is hosting the dialogue from 1:30 – 3:00 pm Thursday at the “spirit rock,” which is across from North Garage.

The gathering -- called “We Hear You, UConn” – focuses on the value of open, honest conversation, and the importance of listening to others and learning about their experiences and concerns.

More than 20 members of the Residential Life staff will sit around the rock with empty chairs nearby, where guests will be invited to sit and discuss any thoughts or concerns on their minds.

The event is part of the commitment by the Residential Life Department and the University as a whole to providing  an inclusive environment that embraces all members who live and work in our residential and campus community regardless of age, color, ethnicity, gender, sex, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability, or socio-economic background.

A great deal of conversation, some constructive and some hurtful, has been taking place around campus and utilizing social media. We hope this event will support honest dialogue that is candid, constructive, and focused on each individual’s personal experiences and perspectives.

I hope you will stop by on Thursday.  However, if you’re not able to join us, please know that every staff member in Residential Life and my UConn colleagues, is committed to having real conversations with all students now and for all time.

Thank you and have a great conclusion of the semester.

    Sincerely,

       Pamela Schipan

Executive Director, Department of Residential Life
