195 Express (WRTD) Service Will Continue Until Graduation
Good news! Service for the last run of the Storrs/Willimantic Bus (the 195 Express) will continue through May 9, 2015. Recently, the WRTD held two public hearings regarding the elimination of the last run of the day on the Storrs/Willimantic Bus Route as a cost savings measure. A number of UConn faculty, staff and students utilize this service and expressed concern at its proposed elimination.
The University of Connecticut will contribute $10,000 of additional funding to help WRTD through its current budget crisis and encourages the Towns to provide additional funding. The UConn funding will allow the Express Service to continue until the Saturday of graduation at the University of Connecticut.
The UConn Community should be aware that there is no guarantee that this service will be available for their commute to the campus in the future. There is currently no agreement between WRTD, the University of Connecticut and the Town of Mansfield for the Storrs/Willimantic bus service (including the 195 Express) beyond the spring 2015 semester. Further discussions with WRTD are pending completion of WRTD’s review of their future services including cost, schedule, and fare structure.
