It is with gratitude for her service that I announce effective today, Dr. Salome Raheim, Dean of the School of Social Work, has resigned her position as co-director of the Health Disparities Institute (HDI) at UConn Health so that she can fully focus on leading new academic initiatives at the School of Social Work, including planning for the new Hartford campus.

Dean Raheim has contributed steadfast leadership as founding co-director of HDI, and I am grateful for her perspective and guidance in framing the institute's strategic direction and mission. President Herbst appointed Dean Raheim as HDI co-director three years ago to lead the strategic planning process to realize the Bioscience Connecticut legislative mandate to enhance research and the delivery of care to minority and underserved populations in the state. Since then, Dean Raheim, a champion of health equity and university-community collaboration in word and deed, conducted listening tours to engage key stakeholders, co-created HDI's strategic planning group, and helped form alliances between UConn Health/UConn Storrs and community partners.  Additionally, Dean Raheim was instrumental in spiriting the inaugural capacity building health disparities seminar series earlier this year, securing renowned speakers from her vast national network of population health and health equity experts.

Please join me and the HDI staff in wishing Dean Raheim continued success.

    Bruce T. Liang, M.D.

    Interim Dean, School of Medicine
