    To the UConn Community:

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of our students.

Jacqueline Marie Kern, a sophomore from Bridgewater, Mass., passed away on Jan. 1, 2015.  Jackie was a nursing student who aspired to be a nurse practitioner, and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega and the UConn Medical Brigade.  Jackie also volunteered at a local prison, taught English as a second language to international students, and tutored elementary school students.

Information will be provided soon about a service being planned to remember Jackie’s importance within the UConn community.

Professionals from UConn’s Counseling and Mental Health Services are available to anyone who wishes to talk with them. You may make an appointment by calling 860-486-4705. Outside of normal hours, when classes are in session, the therapist on call may be reached at 860-486-4705.

Condolences to the Kern family can be sent to the Dean of Students Office, Unit Box 4062.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Jackie’s family and friends during this time of loss.

    Sincerely,

Michael Gilbert, Vice President for Student Affairs; and Eleanor JB Daugherty, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students
