  • Your Gift to CSEC Can Help the Hungry and Homeless

    As we prepare for Thanksgiving, please remember those both near and far who are hungry and homeless. You can donate to these causes through the Connecticut State Employees Campaign.

    The top 20 charities to which UConn employees contributed last year included FoodShare (5040) and the Connecticut Food Bank (8483). And the Campaign includes many other charities that address hunger and homelessness:

    Homelessness: Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness (5780); Habitat for Humanity International (7937); Giving Children Hope (7803); Mercy Housing and Shelter Corp. (7775); New Reach (5762); South Park Inn (5094); St. Vincent DePaul Mission (4356).

    Hunger: Action Against Hunger USA (8135); Bread for Life (Southington) (6524); Children’s Hunger Fund (7762); Children’s Hunger Relief Fund (8832); Covenant Soup Kitchen (7623); Feed a Child (7601); Feeding America’s Children (8180); Freedom From Hunger (8214); Help the Children (7933); Shoreline Soup Kitchens (4988); WhyHunger (8188).

    You can find these and other charities listed in the CSEC directory online. To find a specific charity of your choice in the online directory, open the pdf, hit the ctrl key and ‘F’ on your keyboard, type the charity you are searching for in the search box, click the down arrow next to your search, and select “Find or Open.”

    Please send your completed pledge form to Paula Enderle, UConn-Storrs Coordinator of the 2014 Connecticut State Employees’ Campaign, at U-5075, or by fax to 860-486-0379. You can also scan it and send via email to csec@uconn.edu.

    Together, we can make a difference. Please give generously.

    All faculty and staff who submit a signed pledge form will be entered into a drawing. In this week’s drawing:

    • Autographed basketball signed by members of the 2014 Men’s National Championship basketball team;
    • Basketball T-shirts , including three women’s basketball shirts and one men’s/women’s national champions shirt.

    The drawing will be closed on Dec. 3, and winners will be notified directly.

    The winners of the drawing announced on Nov. 5 were:

    • James Murphy, gift basket from the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources;
    • Mary Ann Doyle, round trip shuttle to Bradley Airport.

    During the month of November, BJ’s Wholesale Club is offering a promotion to state employees that will benefit the State Employees Charitable Campaign: Anyone signing up through this program receives three extra months’ membership at a discount – a total of 15 months’ membership for $40. That is $10 off the regular membership fee, and the CSEC campaign receives $5 for each person signing up under this program. Those who will be renewing their BJ’s membership between now and February 2015 should renew during November to be eligible for this promotion. To sign up, go to the statewide CSEC website and fill out the BJ’s application under Quick Links.
