Hands On Computer Training for Student Investigators
Using the InfoEd Human Subjects Module

Who Should Attend?
Graduate and undergraduate student investigators from political science and other departments on the Storrs campus, five regional campuses, the School of Law and the School of Social Work who plan to conduct research with human subjects and are interested in learning about submitting an electronic IRB protocol application through the InfoEd portal. Priority will be granted to Department of Political Science students who register before September 19 but graduate and undergraduate students in other disciplines are also welcome to attend, space permitting. Space is limited to 20 students on a first-come, first-served basis.
What?
This hands-on computer session will assist student investigators at both the graduate and undergraduate levels prepare and submit an initial IRB protocol application for internal review and routing to the IRB Office through the InfoEd eRA portal. Topics covered will include using the InfoEd portal, locating existing IRB protocols, adding your faculty advisor as a delegate to your profile, and preparing and submitting a protocol for internal review and approval.

Why?
All student investigators who conduct human subject research as part of their undergraduate or graduate degree program must prepare and submit an IRB application for review and approval by the Internal Review Board (IRB) prior to beginning the research if the study is being conducted at or by individuals on the UConn-Storrs Campus, the five regional campuses, the School of Law and the School of Social Work. Starting spring semester 2015, all Principal Investigators and Student Investigators who conduct human subject research will be required to submit all IRB protocols electronically using InfoEd. Currently, investigators may submit protocols on paper through intercampus mail or electronically through the InfoEd portal.
How Do I Register?
Register for the training session entitled “InfoEd Human Subjects Module Training (Student Investigators)” on the ProDev.UConn.Edu website at https://web2.uconn.edu/hrtraining/training/index.php?course=312 (NetID required). Registration will be open to non-political science students beginning September 19. If you cannot attend this optional session, similar sessions for faculty, staff and students are also available throughout the fall semester. Also, self-directed training materials are available on the web at http://training.research.uconn.edu.
