This policy was developed to increase faculty and staff awareness of their student safety responsibilities and to create a greater margin of safety for students who may be working alone with materials, equipment or in areas that could result in serious injury or an immediate life-threatening hazard. The policy applies to undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral students performing academic or research work at the University of Connecticut, including all regional campuses and the Law School. No student is ever permitted to work alone in a hazardous environment.
Managers, supervisors, principle investigators, faculty, Department Heads and others who are responsible for assigning work to students that involve potential exposure to immediately hazardous environments should be familiar with the requirements of this policy.
