On Saturday, September 13, the Music Department will host the UConn Brass and Percussion Day for high school students, teachers, and amateur musicians. The program kicks off at 9am in the Department of Music with coffee and registration and concludes at 5pm. Among the festival’s full day of activities, students should find these featured clinics of particular interest: Preparing and Performing your All-State and Regional Audition Repertoire; Warm Up and Technique Master Classes; and Brass Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble Reading Sessions. Featured clinics for teachers include: Warm Up and Technique Master Classes; Brass Chamber Music and Percussion Ensemble Reading Sessions for all participants; Informal Q&A Session with UConn Faculty; and Jazz Improvisation with Earl MacDonald. Two concerts will be performed at the von der Mehden Recital hall. The UConn Brass, Percussion and Trumpet Ensembles will perform from 12:30-1:20pm, and the UConn Faculty Brass Sextet and Keith Aleo will perform from 4-5pm. All participants are encouraged to bring their brass or percussion instruments.

The festival is hosted by UConn Associate Professor of Trumpet Louis Hanzlik and UConn Instructor of Percussion Keith Aleo. The general registration fee is $15. The “Bring Your Student” rate of $10 is available when teachers pre-register five or more students. The “Music and Arts Private Lesson Program” and “UConn CSA Rate” of $10 is available for eligible teachers and students.
